Yala (Thailand), 31.08.2006 - In the largely Muslim southern province of Yala Thai were this morning at 11:30 local time clock in an apparently coordinated action almost simultaneously bomb attacks on 22 banks committed. All bombs were detonated inside the banks. The military then ordered
the closing of all bank branches in the province. Yala is one of the three provinces in southern Thailand, from which is regularly reports of attacks by militant Islamist groups. So far, most terrorist acts in the Thai southern provinces of small bombs or gunfire from passing vehicles. Today's coordinated attack appears to mark a new stage of violence.
